## Overview

Takshif provides professional archival systems and services designed for Arabic from the start. It helps institutions preserve, describe, digitise, make available and search their collections through standards-led archival practice, Arabic-native interfaces, modern search, digitisation and responsible AI.

## Archival Systems and Hosting

Managed hosting and support for open-source archival, library, repository and preservation systems, operated with archival expertise and Arabic/RTL requirements in mind. Primary systems include AtoM, ArchivesSpace, Koha and IIIF delivery through viewers such as Mirador and Universal Viewer. Archivematica, DSpace, Islandora, Omeka and CollectiveAccess are also available. Takshif supports migration from legacy catalogues and spreadsheets without making unsupported geographic data-residency claims.

## ArchiveBuddy.ai

ArchiveBuddy is a live, Arabic-ready AI assistant for archivists. It supports cataloguing and indexing, metadata extraction, digitisation planning, checksums and fixity, preservation guidance and collection-grounded archival questions. It follows a human-in-the-loop model: the system suggests and the archivist verifies.

## Arabic OCR and HTR

Takshif builds workflows for reading printed Arabic documents and handwritten manuscripts, reviewing uncertain text beside the source image, organising metadata and making collections searchable. Work may use eScriptorium, Kraken, HTRflow and related technologies. No universal accuracy figure is promised; source material is evaluated and machine output is reviewed by people.

## Museums and Collections

Heratio provides live Arabic-native museum and collection management for object description, taxonomies, classifications, hierarchy, controlled vocabularies and right-to-left workflows. This service is intended for museums, heritage bodies and cultural collections.

## Digitisation and Digital Humanities

Professional services cover digitisation of Arabic documents and manuscripts, IIIF image delivery and annotation, OCR/HTR for research corpora, structured text and support for digital scholarship. The source image remains the authority throughout the workflow.

## AI Integration for Archives

Takshif integrates Arabic OCR/HTR, entity and metadata extraction, and semantic search into institutional archival environments. AI is treated as enabling technology beneath archival practice rather than as a replacement for professional judgement.

## Archival Approach

Takshif applies ISAD(G), Records in Contexts, provenance, archival hierarchy, source authority, IIIF and OAIS-informed preservation thinking. Archives are not ordinary document-management systems. The governing principle is: the machine suggests, the human reviews, and the original source decides.

## Arabic Archival Knowledge Guides

Takshif publishes direct, practical Arabic guides for institutions choosing archive systems, digitising collections and processing Arabic text. Current subjects include archive management software, AtoM, ArchivesSpace, Arabic manuscript OCR and HTR, archive digitisation, and the distinction between records management and archival management.

## Saudi Arabia and the Wider Arabic-Speaking World

Saudi Arabia is Takshif’s initial institutional market, while its Arabic-native systems and services are intended for archives, libraries, museums, universities, research centres and cultural institutions throughout the Arabic-speaking world.

## Pilot Projects

Institutions can begin with a defined collection of documents or manuscripts, typically 1,000–5,000 pages, to evaluate reading, review, indexing and search on their own material. Source complexity is considered and no fixed OCR/HTR accuracy claim is made.
